Today Joe and I finished digging the new pond in the middle of the springs on the boggy area. The idea was to contain the springs in a 6 metre long pond - and it drains into the stream as intended!

1845
We're going to dig it
deeper down its middle and leave the wildlife - e.g. herons bringing duckweed, seeds and eggs on their feet - to populate the pond naturally. It will
be fenced to protect schoolchildren and will become an invaluable attraction for them.

This photo shows the ditch draining into the stream.

Most of the old compost heap has been moved by Joe and me to a shadier place by the stream. There is a vast pile there which will soon be encased in a huge wooden ‘composting tank’.

The remainder you see here will be used to fill the ‘School pit’ ready for the Friday Club to visit in the new Term.
